There’s More Than One Way to Make a Difference
You do not have to rescue an animal yourself to change one’s life.
You might donate, sponsor a resident, clean a shelter, help at a working bee, share a post, find a grant opportunity, lend a professional skill or simply help more people discover what we do.
Every contribution helps Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary care for animals, build better facilities and be ready when the next animal needs us.
There are plenty of ways to make a real difference for the animals in our care. Some involve giving financially, some involve giving time or skills, and some can be done from home with nothing more than a phone or computer.
Donate
Donations help us cover the everyday and unexpected costs of caring for animals.
This may include veterinary treatment, feed, medication, bedding, shelter, rehabilitation, fencing, transport, emergency care and the ongoing development of safer, more suitable facilities.
Every contribution helps us provide better care and respond when an animal needs us.
Sponsor a Resident
Sponsoring a resident is a more personal way to support the sanctuary.
Your sponsorship helps contribute toward the ongoing care of an individual animal, including feed, veterinary care, medication, enrichment, shelter and other needs that come with providing long-term or lifetime sanctuary.
It is also a lovely way to feel more connected to the animals who call Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary home.
Volunteer
Volunteering at Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary can mean many different things.
You do not need to be an animal expert, and you do not need to be physically strong to be useful. We need a mix of people with different skills, experience and availability.
General Volunteers
General volunteers may help with everyday practical tasks such as:
cleaning shelters and animal areas,
refilling water,
preparing feed,
basic property tidying,
simple maintenance tasks,
helping keep animal areas clean, safe and organised,
assisting during larger sanctuary jobs,
enrichment (hanging out with a resident!).
These roles are important because they free up more time for direct animal care.
Some animals require more specialised care.
We are interested in volunteers who have strong experience with particular species and may be able to help with higher-level care under appropriate direction.
This could include tasks such as:
cleaning and bandaging rooster feet,
assisting with medication or treatment routines where appropriate,
caring for high-needs or special-needs residents,
species-specific care,
monitoring rehabilitation,
helping with more complex feeding or care routines.
Specialist roles would be matched carefully to the volunteer's experience and the needs of the animal.
Specialist Volunteers
From time to time, we may hold working bees for larger jobs around the sanctuary.
These could involve:
fencing
shelter construction
cleaning and preparing animal areas
paddock work
planting
maintenance
setting up new rehabilitation or housing areas
You do not necessarily need animal-care experience to help at a working bee.
And if physical work is not for you, there are still useful ways to contribute.
This might include:
helping organise the day
providing refreshments supplied by us
signing people in
taking photos
helping coordinate tools or materials
assisting with admin
helping with other non-physical tasks
Working Bees
We are also very interested in hearing from tradespeople and skilled professionals who may be willing to donate their time or provide discounted work.
This may include:
fencing,
plumbing,
electrical work,
carpentry,
earthworks,
welding,
building and shelter construction,
machinery or equipment work,
other practical skills that can help us safely develop the sanctuary.

Not everyone has the time, money or ability to volunteer physically, and that is completely okay.
