Help us say yes

When someone is experiencing domestic and family violence or hospitalisation, finding somewhere safe for themselves can be difficult enough.

Finding temporary care for a horse, cow, sheep, goat, pig or other farmed companion animal can be even harder.

Heartbeat Haven’s Safe Haven program is being created to provide temporary care for those animals while their people get through a crisis.

There is already a demonstrated need for this service in our region. People have reached out to us needing exactly this kind of help.

Right now, though, we do not have all of the infrastructure needed to safely take those animals in.

That means there are people we want to help, but currently cannot.

Why this matters

Safe Haven is not just about finding somewhere for an animal to stay.

It may be your friend, sister, colleague or neighbour living in an unsafe home because leaving means abandoning the animals they love at the mercy of a coercive or abusive partner.

It may be your mum, uncle or friend who needs major surgery or an extended hospital stay, but has no one who can safely care for their horse, goats, sheep, pigs or other farm animal companions while they recover.

For people with farmed companion animals, there are very few emergency care options.

Sometimes that means delaying treatment.
Sometimes it means staying somewhere unsafe.
Sometimes it means facing the possibility of surrendering an animal they love.

That is the gap Safe Haven is being created to fill.

The need already exists in our region. People are already reaching out.

We want to be able to say yes when they do.

We need $33,000 to make Safe Haven a reality

We already have the property, the operational program is being developed, and we’re willing to help.

What we need now is the physical infrastructure that will allow us to safely receive, unload, separate, handle and care for animals coming into Safe-Haven.

The $33,000 will fund:

  • Portable livestock yards and loading ramp which allows safe loading, unloading and handling of pets when the owner doesn’t have dedicated yards.

  • Safe animal shelters to provide ecure, weather and predator protected accommodation during their stay.

  • Essential fencing and associated infrastructure which allows animals to be safely separated and cared for according to their species-specific needs.

Our target: $33,000

Your donation can help us say yes

When someone reaches out because they are escaping domestic violence or facing hospitalisation, we don’t want our answer to be:

“We’re sorry, we can’t take your animals.”

We want to be able to say:

“Yes. We can help.”

That is what your donation makes possible.

Every $25, $50, $100 or $500 brings us closer to having the yards, shelters and fencing we need to safely take animals in when their people have nowhere else to turn.

This is not about building something for the sake of it. It’s about creating the practical capacity to help a person in crisis keep their animals safe.

If you can contribute, please help us make Safe Haven a reality.

Your donation will be recorded as a contribution to Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary’s Safe-Haven campaign.

If the Safe Haven infrastructure project becomes fully funded, or circumstances require the project to change, excess campaign funds may be used for Safe Haven program costs and closely related animal rescue and care activities carried out by Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary Inc.

Can your business help build Safe Haven?

We’re also looking for businesses that may be able to support the project through donated funds, materials, equipment, trade assistance or discounted supply.

If your business supplies fencing, gates, posts, livestock yards, shelters, gravel, earthworks or related materials or services, we’d love to hear from you.

A donated product, reduced-cost supply or contribution of labour can directly reduce how much we need to raise and help us get Safe-Haven operational sooner.
